ABOUT USWelcome to Wadebridge Town Council WebsiteThe Town Council is not divided into wards. All Members serve the whole town and consists of fifteen Councillors serving an electorate of approximately 7000. The whole Council is usually elected every four years but due to the formation of Cornwall Council the next election will now be in 2013. The existence of a Town Council ensures that the Town's views, requirements and opinions are well represented to Cornwall Council and in turn to central Government and statutory authorities. The Town Council is consulted on all Planning Applications concerning the town and forwards its recommendations accordingly. This ensures local knowledge is taken into consideration when the final decision is made by Cornwall Council, Planning Department. The Town Council Wadebridge Town Council actively pursues and supports policies designed to provide improved facilities in the town. It provides a CCTV system, coverage of the town is monitored by the Town's Police Station staff, financial support for worthy local charities, support for Remembrance Day parades and services. The Memorial Stones have recently been given a facelift providing better access for those able bodied and less able who wishing to lay wreaths. The Town Council is justifiably proud of its parks and open spaces, receiving written acclaim for Tim Smitt of The Eden Project. Facilities for all ages are included, play areas for children, a small skateboard and basketball area as well as a more formal park which has been redeveloped with the help of a Heritage Lottery Grant. Support is given to the Christmas Light scheme run by the Town's Chamber of Commerce. An annual donation has been given for many years and electricity is supplied by the Town Hall for the lights on the Platt. In 1998 the Town's cemetery was extended by purchasing a large plot of land which had simply been a field. This was given an extensive make-over and is now actually an area of peace and quietude. There are almost 40 benches placed around the town, all maintained by the Town Council, most have been provided by the town but one or two are donated in memory of deceased relatives. These are just a few examples of the Town Council's continuing commitment to raise the town's profile . Members of the press and public are welcome to attend meetings of the Town Council. The full Council meet on the second Wednesday of the month, except January and August, in the Conference Room of the Town Hall and this meeting includes a planning Committee meeting. There is a 15 minute section for the public to address members on any issue prior to the meeting beginning. Committee Meetings take place in the Victoria Room of the Town Hall on the fourth Wednesday of the month and include meetings for Planning, Parks and Cemeteries, Car Parks and Traffic, Town Hall, Communications and Staffing. The Communications Committee and Staffing Committee meetings alternate and take place bi-monthly. The Finance and General Purposes meetings take place quarterly in the week before the Council meeting in January, April, July and October. The Foyer of the Town Hall is given over to various memorabilia and gifts by the town's twin town in Brittany. There is also a memorial to fallen of the First World War.
