On behalf of Wadebridge Foodbank:

We're recruiting for our SMART Tenants Money Box Course

Can You Help?

Are you currently working with anyone who would benefit from our Moneybox Course https://www.wadebridgefoodbank.org/esf-money-box-course/

As part of the European Social Fund, we are working with Eccabi and Cornwall Housing to run a SMART Tenants MoneyBox Course. This is a course for anyone who is a tenant, aged 16-64 and unemployed. It will help people to budget, build their confidence and manage their finances and prepare them for Universal Credit.

We are currently recruiting for the next course which starts on Friday 15th September at Chestnuts in Bodmin. It will run for 6 weeks during term-time from 9:30am-2:30pm. We can cover childcare costs (with an Ofsted registered childcare provider) and travel expenses.

Please could you circulate this to your team. If you know anyone who you feel would benefit from this course please let us know and we will send through a referral form to you. You can call us on 01208 815374 or drop us an email at contact@wadebridgefoodbank.org

We can also organise a catch up with your team and John Ede from Eccabi who has a wealth of knowledge regarding Universal Credit and how it will affect anyone on benefits.

We have been asked to relay the following advert for Lay, Town and Parish Representatives to the Standards Committee of Cornwall Council:

CORNWALL COUNCIL

APPOINTMENT OF TOWN AND PARISH COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES and LAY MEMBERS TO CORNWALL COUNCIL’S STANDARDS COMMITTEE

Do you believe in the importance of high standards of conduct in local councils? If so, you may be interested in joining Cornwall Council’s Standards Committee to help maintain and promote such standards.

The Standards Committee are looking to appoint to fill recent vacancies and require two Town and Parish Council Representatives and one Lay Member to sit on the Standards Committee. To be eligible to be a Town and Parish Council Representative you must be a member of a Town or Parish Council in Cornwall and not a member or officer of Cornwall Council. To be appointed as a Lay Member you cannot have been, in the last five years, a member or officer of Cornwall Council, or a member of a Town and Parish Council in Cornwall.

For both roles previous experience of an ethical standards regime, whilst not essential, is an advantage.

These are voluntary roles, but a small allowance may be payable and there will be travelling and subsistence expenses.

If you think you meet these criteria further information and an application form can be requests from Simon JR Mansell MBE, Assurance Service, Cornwall Council, Treyew Road, Truro, TR1 3AY email: simon.mansell@cornwall.gov.uk.uk

The closing date for applications is 12 Noon on 12 September 2017

The Town Council are extremely disappointed to find that the benches in children's play area at Egloshayle Playing Fields, have been ripped from their fixings.

Some of these benches were only fitted yesterday by our hard working and busy Grounds staff who now have to return to make good the damage.

Again, it seems a select few are intent on spoiling the lovely park areas and don’t appreciate the surroundings we live in or care about how this reflects on Wadebridge.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact us immediately on 01208 817081 or message us.

Thank you.

It has been brought to the Town Council’s attention that an event termed a 'Flash Mob Theatre' has been organised for Monday 31 July on the Langueux circle - or ‘Wadebridge Amphitheatre’ which it is being mistakenly referred to.  Langueux is in recognition of the twin town of Wadebridge located in the North West of France.

A request from the 'responsible person' for this event was received by the Town Council on Tuesday 25 July.  Unfortunately, as the Town Council is required to comply with statute, the Agenda for Council meetings is required to be issued at least 3 working days in advance of the meeting.  This means we can't just ‘add on’ Agenda items as and when we like and therefore, if an item is not on the Agenda, it's not because ‘we can't be bothered’ to put it there.

Town Council meeting dates are planned a year in advance and are shown on the Town Council website.  If an event is organised in an efficient way then the ‘responsible person’ will be aware of these meeting dates to ensure that their event request is placed on the Town Council Agenda, in a timeous manner, for consideration.  It’s a straightforward process and one that all event organisers are aware of and happy to comply with.

In a similar manner when the Christmas Lights are put up in the Town we can’t just do as we please – we have to ensure that we comply with all that is asked of the Town Council from Cornwall Council.

In summary, the ‘responsible person’ for this ‘event’:

  • Didn’t make a request to use Town Council land in sufficient time to enable the Town Council to grant permission.
  • Wasn’t refused permission for the event – they just weren’t organised enough to make the request in sufficient time.
  • Has provided no information in relation to the length of the event in the evening.
  • Has not demonstrated how they are mindful of residents that live in Southern Way.
  • Has not provided a risk assessment for the event.
  • Has not provided any insurance for the event.

All other events which are held on Wadebridge Town Council land have no difficulty with any of these requirements and are happy to work with the Council to ensure that the those involved with the event, the public and Town Council land are considered, protected and informed.

Thank you
