On Wednesday 5 December MHCLG published the Pocket Parks Plus prospectus inviting community-led applications for funding to create new green spaces of up to 0.4 hectares and to refurbish existing parks.

The prospectus offers an opportunity to build on coverage around the Government’s work to support local parks and green areas, especially with regards to community involvement in green spaces. It will also build on the success of the original Pocket Parks Scheme in 2015/16.

Pocket parks provide green spaces which can improve the physical and mental health of the community and can be used for physical exercise, social meetings, nature education, community events, and meeting other local needs.  Each pocket park will be an individual space tailored to the needs of the local area by the community group which has applied for the grant.

Communities across England will have the opportunity to bid for a share of £1 million Pocket Parks Plus funding to support them in taking control of their own green spaces.

Applicants have until Friday 25 January 2019 to submit an application to MHCLG and further details are available in the prospectus and the related press release
