It is with huge sadness that Wadebridge Town Council advises the death of Cllr John Leach.

John passed away, peacefully, on Wednesday 23 February 2022 after a short illness.  Our thoughts are with John’s family who we know will feel the loss of their loved one deeply.

John joined Wadebridge Town Council on 15 July 2015 as a co-opted Member, meaning he was voted onto the town council by those councillors serving at the time.  John brought with him a vast understanding of council life having been a Councillor in Sutton for many years.

Over the years, his skills and knowledge, not only as a Councillor but also in respect of his professional life as a solicitor, have proved to be invaluable and much appreciated by the town council – they will be very much missed as will his friendly, jovial and good-humoured spirit.

John served as Deputy Mayor between 2018-2021, supporting the Mayor and Mayoress through that time.  Cllrs Phil and Louise Mitchell will tell you how appreciative and indebted they are to John, and his wife Hazel, for all of their help and assistance in those years. They represented the town council on many occasions and at many events and could always be relied upon to step in at short notice whenever required – we thank you both for that.

John was much respected amongst his fellow councillors and known always to have a witty tale to tell - he could be relied upon to sum up a debate with a light-hearted and thought provoking observation or humorous quip. But more than that, he will be fondly remembered as a friendly, caring and thoughtful gentleman by councillors and staff alike, always taking time to stop and chat and of course to offer help and advice wherever he could.

John’s strong belief in family life and commitment to his work with Egloshayle Church was a testament to his kind-hearted nature and splendid character.

You will be very much missed John, but always remembered.
