When a grave is purchased an Exclusive Right of Burial (ERB) is issued to the person(s) buying the grave or memorial plot. The ERB is included within the cost of the grave and is the legal ownership record for the grave or memorial plot.
Only the person(s) named on the ERB will be able to apply for a memorial to be erected on a grave or memorial plot (headstone or cremation tablet).
The document below provides an explanation of why an ERB is required and sets out the process of when and how it should be transferred moving forwards.
