After serving as Deputy Mayor alongside Councillor Ian Welch since May 2025, Councillor Jules Metcalfe has now been appointed as the Mayor of Wadebridge.

Jules has already played an active role in supporting both the Council and the wider community. Over the years, Jules has been involved in a number of important community events and initiatives, including attending the opening of the Changing Places toilets, helping to present awards at the annual Wadebridge Carnival, and taking part in judging the town’s VE Day 80 Bake Off celebrations.

As Deputy Mayor, Jules has worked closely alongside Ian, supporting civic events and representing the Council at community occasions across Wadebridge. Jules is well known for her enthusiasm, community spirit and commitment to supporting local organisations.

Wadebridge Town Council is delighted to welcome Jules into the role of Mayor and looks forward to supporting her during the year ahead.

Councillor Metcalfe said:
“I want to thank Ian for his service as Mayor of Wadebridge for the last three and a half years. Ian has worked tirelessly for the benefit of Wadebridge and his wealth of experience as a Councillor has always been used to great effect. It has not been an easy period with the aftereffects of the Covid pandemic and associated financial constraints. Most notably, Ian presided over the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the associated period of mourning.
I am delighted to say that Ian has agreed to remain as a councillor, and I know I will be relying on his expertise over the coming months.

I would also like to thank Cllr Kelly Rowe for offering to step back up as Deputy Mayor; this is very much appreciated. I would also like to mention the fantastic job Anne Minnis does as our Town Clerk. You couldn’t wish for a better Clerk incredibly experienced and ensuring we all keep within the rules, for which we are a better Council. Thanks also go to all the office staff and employees who keep the town looking so attractive and running so smoothly.

I look forward to working closely with our two Cornwall Councillors, ensuring this relationship is open and supportive, as this will bring real benefit to Wadebridge.

I am greatly honoured to be able to fully participate in the upcoming ceremonial duties on behalf of the Council and the town as Mayor. I also hope to meet as many parishioners as I can and intend to set up Mayor’s surgeries over the coming months. I am keen to foster closer relationships between the various groups within the town.

My final thanks go to my fellow Councillors for electing me as Mayor, and I look forward to working together over the next year. We have a number of exciting projects we are hoping to progress, and we also hope to push for a Governance Review of our boundaries so that we can more accurately reflect the population of the town and utilise the additional revenue to progress projects including, but not exclusively, The Platt Toilets, an Inclusive Play Area, and improvements to the Skate Park with the addition of lighting and a pump track.

We are all volunteers who want to see this wonderful town thrive with the support of everyone who lives here.”
