Wadebridge Town Council wish to advise that the benches/seating in our play areas will be reintroduced week commencing Tuesday 4 May 2021.

The Council understands the frustrations from the public, however the decision to remove benches was to assist with social distancing and encourage people to leave the play area when they have had fun and have finished using the play equipment. This decision was made on recommended guidance from Cornwall Council with a view to keeping people safe.

Government guidance remains that if we (the Council) perceive there to be a high risk of Covid 19 transmission to play area users we should consider closing the play area to protect users’ safety. The measures we have put in place has enabled us to keep our play areas open when other Councils closed their play areas completely.

Our play areas are used at the risk of users – we have put in place measures to keep users safe, and while we appreciate these may not be popular, are done so with the health and safety of play area users of the utmost importance. Covid-19 is still with us, and social distancing remains as we await to hear the government report on the stages of lockdown at each pathway stage.

Please follow these rules so that you can use our play areas safely:

  • Keep a safe 2 metre distance if possible
  • Take hand sanitiser with you, and use it after touching surfaces
  • Wash your hands for 20 seconds before leaving home, and wash them again for 20 seconds when you get back
  • Do not take food and drink into the play area
  • Only one family member should accompany a child whilst in play area
  • Put all your litter - including any protective wear like disposable masks - in bins provided
  • Be considerate of other users. Please leave the play area as soon as you have finished. Do not congregate within the boundary fence
  • If you stick to a maximum of 30 minutes use if the play area is busy, it will give others the chance to enjoy the facilities
